Helps to protect the rights and interests of mentally incapable adults who have no one else to act on their behalf in accordance with the Substitute Decisions Act (SDA) The office is responsible for:
Guardianship Investigation and Provision - Investigates situations in which an adult is alleged to be mentally incapable and suffering, or at risk of suffering, serious harm as a result * makes decisions (decision maker of last resort) about financial affairs, medical treatment and admission to long-term care for adults who are mentally incapable of doing so when there is no one else, such as a family member, willing and able to provide this service * appoints guardians and will serve as court-appointed representative in litigation cases Power of Attorney - Kits are available that help you appoint the person you want to make decisions for you when you are no longer able to do so for yourself |
