Description of Services: Access to legal services for people with low income

Issues legal aid certificates under the provisions of the Legal Aid Act to enable persons who qualify to engage the services of a lawyer of their choice *addresses criminal law, family law and immigration

Duty Counsel - Lawyers provide legal assistance to those who are appearing for the first time at court and do not have a lawyer * counsel assists people charged on matters of adjournment, pleas, applications for bail and submissions as to sentence * services provided in family court, child welfare cases, criminal and young offenders cases

Family Law Information Clinic - by appointment * every other Mon * 9:30am-2:30pm

Fees: Based on ability to pay and area of law
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: People who cannot afford their own solicitor * based on income and area of law
Application: Call Client Services Centre for initial application * financial information and other documents required to determine eligibility
